Ready to apply for college? Just follow these steps and you will be on your way to earning your college degree.
Step 1: Apply: Complete an application for admission and submit it to the college along with a $20 application fee.
Step 2: Transcripts: Submit a copy of your high school transcript or GED certificate. If you are transferring from another college, you will need to contact that college and request that they submit an official transcript to the Registrar's Office at Northwest State.
Step 3: Financial Aid: All students who plan on applying for financial aid need to fill out the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) which is available in the Student Services Office. Students can also fill out the FAFSA online at www.fafsa.ed.gov To speak with a Financial Aid Counselor, stop by the student services office in C103 or call (419) 267-1389 or (419) 267-1333.
Step 4: COMPASS Placement Assessment: All new degree seeking students are required to take the COMPASS test. This is an assessment test that is used to help place new students in the appropriate math and English courses. The results of the COMPASS test do not determine admission to the College, however they do assist your advisor in course registration. Current ACT results may also be utilized.
Step 5: Advising and Registration: All new students are required to attend Student Orientation, Advising and Registration (SOAR) before they can register for classes. SOAR is a fun, interactive program full of information that will enhance students’ success in college. This is a one-day, five hour session that includes general information sessions, hands-on activities and time to meet with an advisor and get registered for classes.
Students who plan on completing their degree or certificate program online are eligible to complete SOAR online as well. Similarly, any students planning on attending the NSCC Van Wert Satellite Location are encouraged to participate in SOAR at that location.
Step 6: Questions: If you have any questions, please contact the Admissions Office at (419) 267-1320. The Admissions Office is located in C106. Stop in or make an appointment to speak with a representative anytime Monday-Thursday 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. or Friday 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
